Japan's Mitsui Chemicals plans to restart its 120,000 tonne/year toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant at Kashima next week after a prolonged shutdown for maintenance, a company source said on Wednesday. The plant was initially slated to resume production last week after it was taken off line on 13 April, but the restart was delayed due to mechanical problems, the source said. The firm's 120,000 tonne/year TDI plant at Ohmuta restarted last week after it was shut on 10 March for maintenance, he said. A month-long turnaround of the plants - at Kashima and Ohmuta - is usually done in May, but the units were shut earlier this year for a longer period due to weak demand, the source added.
